In reality, the United States is the sole beneficiary of the First World War, the Second World War, and this prelude to a potential Third World War in Europe. The rise of American power has been fueled by the decline of the major Western European powers—the United Kingdom, France, and Germany—to such an extent that they would simply not survive another global conflict.

By the logic of geopolitical evolution, rather than continuing to sustain their distant transatlantic creation and model—one they have imprudently chosen to support despite its geographic and strategic remoteness—these European powers would naturally become part of a rising Eurasia, of which they are an integral component, yet from which they continue to distance themselves.

For this reason, February 2025 presents a unique opportunity to reach a peace agreement and thereby postpone that decisive “Eurasian moment.”

At that point, the Ukrainian story returns to February 2022—a time when Volodymyr Zelenskyy, his American counterpart Joe Biden, and Ukraine’s European supporters had an opportunity to prevent the expansion of what could be described as a European bloodbath into Ukraine through negotiations, thereby avoiding the transformation of a domestic conflict into an international war.

They chose not to do so.

Nor did they consider it unwise to bring NATO forces closer to the borders of Russia, a nuclear superpower they had already designated as their principal adversary. At the time, they rejected the option of Ukrainian neutrality, while Russia refused to yield to the pressure of the Atlantic Alliance.

Today, after Russia has annexed the disputed territories where, prior to the internationalization of the conflict, an eight-year civil war had been fought within Ukraine, Zelenskyy has expressed a willingness to negotiate…
