This July 14th, France did not only celebrate the storming of the Bastille. On the Champs-Élysées paraded Macron’s vision of Europe. The national holiday, through which France has celebrated its own Republic for nearly a century and a half, was turned into a platform for promoting the Coalition of the Willing and support for Ukraine. This raises the question: where does the French state end, and where does Macron’s Europe begin?
